Mar. 14, 2026, ROCKFORD, MI – The GRCC baseball team pulled off a thrilling comeback Saturday afternoon at the Meijer Sports Complex, scoring three runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to earn an 11–10 walk-off victory over the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars.
With the game tied at 10 in the final inning, freshman Cannon Paul delivered the decisive blow, lining a single to left-center field to score Henry Streeter and seal the Raiders' dramatic win.
GRCC finished with 14 hits in the contest, led by Paul, who went 3-for-6 at the plate. Owen Hendrix drove in four runs and went 2-for-5, highlighted by a three-run home run in the eighth inning — his first of the season — that sparked the late rally.
Kalamazoo Valley struck first in the opening inning when Eli Main singled home a run. The Raiders responded immediately in the bottom half, taking a 2–1 lead after Peter Heintz lifted a sacrifice fly and Carter Gulick followed with an RBI single down the right-field line.
The Cougars regained the lead in the fourth inning. Kadyn Stahlhood delivered an RBI triple before Troy Scarff drove in a run on a groundout and Kash Kalahar added an RBI single to make it 4–2.
GRCC evened the score in the sixth inning when Hendrix drove in a run on a groundout.
Kalamazoo Valley appeared to take control in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on four hits to build a 9–4 advantage. The biggest swing came when Scarff launched a grand slam to center field.
The Raiders began chipping away in the eighth inning. Hendrix's three-run homer brought GRCC within one, and Paul followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 9–8.
After KVCC added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, the Raiders mounted one final rally. Hendrix reached on an error with two outs to start it, followed by a single from Jack Lockwood and a walk to Streeter to load the bases. AJ Speigl then reached on an error that allowed two runs to score and tie the game at 10–10. Moments later, Paul delivered the walk-off single that brought Streeter home and completed the comeback.
Kyle O'Hearn started on the mound for GRCC, allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings while striking out six and walking four. Sam Schmuker and Landon Terry provided relief, with Terry earning the win.
Heintz, Speigl, Hendrix, and Streeter each recorded two hits for the Raiders, who also stole three bases and turned a double play defensively.
GRCC will return to action March 20 when the Raiders open conference play against the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks as part of a round-robin weekend featuring every conference team in Sandusky, Ohio. The Raiders are scheduled to play five games over three days.
