No. 9 Raiders Dominate Home Opener with Sweep of Kellogg CC

Williams hit season high .688 for the Raiders

Sept. 4, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The ninth-ranked Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team opened its home schedule in dominant fashion on Friday, sweeping Kellogg Community College 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-11) inside the Ford Fieldhouse.

The victory extends GRCC's winning streak over Kellogg to 32 straight matches, with the Raiders' last loss to the Bruins coming in 2007. With the win, GRCC improved to 3-2 on the season, while Kellogg dropped to 3-4.

All 17 Raiders saw the court, with 15 contributing at least one point in the team's balanced effort.

The Raiders fell behind early in the opening set but grabbed their first lead at 11-10 on a solo block from sophomore Taylor Kik, and they never trailed again. GRCC recorded 17 kills, two aces, and a block in the set, with freshman Vanessa Walker delivering five kills to power a 25-18 win.

Set two was the most lopsided of the night, as the Raiders hit a match-high .357 while earning 22 of the 25 points, including six aces from five different players. GRCC cruised to a 25-9 victory.

In the third, Kik and sophomore Christina Williams combined for nine of the team's 14 kills, while the Raiders added four more aces and two blocks. Ella Gapczynski capped the night with a kill to seal the 25-11 win. The team committed just one reception error across all three sets.

"This was a total team performance," associate head coach David Rawles said. "We had contributions from every spot on the roster, and the energy was outstanding from start to finish."
