The GRCC softball team dominated Bay College on the road, picking up two more run-rule victories — 8-0 and 14-0, both in five innings — to clinch their sixth conference championship in program history and second in the last three years.
Game 1:
Despite only collecting five hits, the Raiders capitalized on 10 walks to shut out Bay in five innings. Evelyn McEachen ended the game with an RBI single to score Macey Springer, who had led off the inning with a triple. Other offensive contributors included Grace Chisek (RBI double), Maddi Miller (RBI), and Addison Nemecek (double, 2 RBI).
Springer (4-3) earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out eight.
Game 2:
The Raiders exploded for nine runs in the third inning en route to a 14-0 victory. Chisek and Grace Salley each tallied three of the team's 11 hits, with Chisek driving in a team-high three runs.
Natalee Beck (4-0) was dominant in the circle, tossing five scoreless innings with two hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts.
With the sweep, GRCC improved to 34-3 overall and 20-1 in conference play, extending its winning streak to 13 games and completing a 5-0 season sweep of Bay College.
Baseball: GRCC Sweeps Bay in Key Conference Battles
GRCC baseball also earned a crucial sweep over Bay College, winning the opener 9-2 and taking the second game 8-4 in extra innings.
Game 1:
Peter Heintz opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the third inning — his fourth of the season. The Raiders put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning, capped by Cannon Paul's second home run of the year.
Kyle O'Hearn (4-2) went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits and striking out 11. Haiden Noakes led the offense with three of the team's 10 hits.
Game 2:
Bay took an early 3-0 lead, but GRCC chipped away. A balk in the fourth brought in Ty Sandwick, and RBI doubles by Heintz and Paul in the sixth tied the game at 3-3.
Bay briefly regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but Carter Gulick responded with his second home run of the season to send the game to extra innings.
In the eighth, three straight doubles by Heintz, Paul, and Jack Lockwood sparked a four-run inning. Connor Wallace held Bay scoreless in the seventh and eighth to earn his first win of the season.
Heintz, Paul, and Sandwick each had two hits as the Raiders improved to 21-18 overall and 15-6 in conference play, securing a 4-1 season series win over Bay College.
Both the baseball and softball teams will close out conference play April 25-26 against Delta College.
