Apr. 1, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team dominated Aquinas College JV on Tuesday, securing a 13-2 victory in a nine-inning contest. With the win, the Raiders improved to 12-13 on the season and extended their winning streak to five games. Meanwhile at Glen Oaks Community College, the softball team ended it's 13-game winning streak, but responded by run-ruling its opponent in the nightcap.
Baseball: Raiders Extend Winning Streak to Five with 13-2 Victory
The Raiders got on the board in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Joey Hysell, followed by RBI singles from Cannon Paul and Peter Heintz, making it 3-0. In the fourth inning, GRCC added two more runs on an error and a sac fly by Haiden Noakes.
Starting pitcher Walker Brockie was stellar, carrying a no-hitter through 3.2 innings before allowing back-to-back hits that led to the Saints' first run. Brockie (2-2) earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing just three hits, one run, and striking out five.
The Raiders put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Hysell, his team-leading third of the season. GRCC collected 11 hits compared to Aquinas' five, with Hysell and Paul each tallying two hits.
Connor Wallace, Landon Terry, and Gavin closed out the game, pitching four innings without allowing an earned run.
Softball: Raiders Split Doubleheader at Glen Oaks
The GRCC softball team split its doubleheader in Centreville, dropping the first game 3-2 before bouncing back with a commanding 13-5 win in six innings.
Game 1: Vikings Edge Raiders in Close Contest
Glen Oaks struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning. The Raiders responded in the second, as Ashlyn Reagan and Addie Nemecek both singled, and Reagan scored on an errant throw after Nemecek stole second.
The Vikings regained the lead in the fifth with a two-run single to go up 3-1. GRCC cut the deficit in the sixth with a Violet McWhinnie RBI groundout, but that was the final run of the game. Glen Oaks outhit GRCC 10-5, with Madison Miller collecting two of the Raiders' hits, including a double.
Game 2: McWhinnie's Homer Sparks Raiders' Offensive Outburst
The Raiders bounced back in game two, thanks to a three-run home run from McWhinnie in the second inning, her first collegiate homer. GRCC piled on seven more runs over the next three innings to build a commanding 10-1 lead.
Glen Oaks extended the game by capitalizing on three Raider errors to score four runs in the fifth. However, GRCC responded with three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Natalee Beck.
McWhinnie, Beck, and Kalani Stowe each recorded two hits, with Beck driving in three runs and McWhinnie tallying four RBIs. Freshman Libby VanFleet remained undefeated, improving to 6-0 with the win. Despite being outhit 12-9, GRCC took advantage of eight walks, three hit-by-pitches, and three sacrifice hits.
With the win, the Raiders improved to an impressive 21-2 on the season.

Both teams return to conference play on Friday, traveling to Mt. Pleasant to face Mid Michigan College. The first game is set for 1 p.m.
