Mar. 4, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Both the Grand Rapids Community College men's and women's basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournament. The women's team fell to Southwestern Michigan College 54-44, while the men's team was defeated by Marian University-Ancilla 83-62.
Women's Basketball Recap
GRCC finished the season with a 10-13 overall record, going 8-6 in conference play to place fourth. Despite forcing 22 turnovers while committing just 10, the Raiders struggled to capitalize, scoring only seven points off turnovers. Southwestern Michigan College (21-9) controlled the boards, outrebounding GRCC 53-39.
- Tia Richard led GRCC with 11 points while adding six rebounds and three steals.
- Ava Schulz contributed 10 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and three steals.
- Tianna Daye scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Men's Basketball Recap
The GRCC men's team finished the year with an 18-12 overall record and a 5-9 conference mark, finishing fifth. The season featured a 13-game winning streak following a 3-2 start. Against Ancilla (22-8), GRCC held a 29-27 lead before the Chargers closed the first half on a 13-2 run to go up 40-31 and never trailed again.
- Bashir Neely led the team with 15 points, adding five rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
- Marshaun Flakes contributed 13 points along with a team-high nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals.
- Tyran Thomas scored nine points, while Benjamin Koubek added eight.
- Zeek Jackson and Jack Agema each finished with six points.
