Mar. 18, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College's baseball and softball teams put on dominant performances Tuesday, with the baseball team cruising to a 19-1 victory over Aquinas College JV at home and the softball team sweeping Indiana Tech JV on the road, 10-1 and 7-4.

Baseball: Raiders' Offense Erupts in Blowout Win

The GRCC baseball team (5-12) was firing on all cylinders, racking up 11 hits, drawing 12 walks, and striking out just four times while playing error-free defense. The highlight of the night came in a nine-run seventh inning, punctuated by freshman first baseman Peter Heintz's grand slam. Heintz finished with six RBI in the game, leading the offensive charge.

Other key contributors included:

  • Joey Hysell, Cannon Paul, and JT Ten Eyck, who each had two hits.
  • Walker Brockie (1-2), who earned his first win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out five.
  • Case Hennip, who picked up his first save, pitching three innings with six strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits.

Softball: Raiders Extend Winning Streak with Road Sweep

The GRCC softball team improved to 13-1 on the season with a pair of road victories over Indiana Tech JV, showcasing both explosive offense and clutch pitching.

Game 1: GRCC 10, Indiana Tech JV 1

The Raiders controlled the game from the start, scoring two runs in the first and adding another in the fifth before a seven-run explosion in the seventh put the game out of reach. GRCC tallied 14 hits, including five doubles in the final inning alone.

Top Performers:

  • Natalee Beck: 3-for-5, including a three-run double
  • Grace Chisek: 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI
  • Violet McWhinnie: 2-for-4 with a double

GRCC's pitching also shined, limiting Indiana Tech to just four hits in the game. Kalani Stowe (4-0) struck out 10 to stay perfect on the year.  Macey Springer allowed no hits while striking out four to earn her first save of the season.

Game 2: GRCC 7, Indiana Tech JV 4

Game 2 was a tighter contest, as Indiana Tech briefly took a 4-2 lead in the third inning. However, sophomore pitcher Macey Springer entered in relief and shut down the Warriors the rest of the way.

Key Moments:

  • Lauren Wiley's second-inning triple led to GRCC's first run, thanks to a Lilly Klop RBI double.
  • Kalani Stowe's clutch two-out, two-run triple in the fourth tied the game at 4-4.
  • The Raiders added an insurance run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
  • Indiana Tech threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but Springer struck out a batter and induced a foul out to catcher Ashlyn Reagan to seal the win.

Springer (2-1) earned the victory, throwing four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
