Dec. 13, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College basketball teams wrapped up play at the inaugural Dave Selmon Classic on Saturday, hosted by GRCC, with both squads facing South Suburban (Ill.) College in the final day of action. The Raider women continued their strong play with a convincing win, while the men fell to the nationally ranked Bulldogs.
Women's Basketball
GRCC 78, South Suburban 52
The Raider women put together a dominant wire-to-wire performance, defeating South Suburban 78–52 to improve to 10–3 on the season and extend their win streak to four games, including Friday's opening-round victory in the tournament.
GRCC built a comfortable lead throughout the afternoon and pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 25–8 over the final 10 minutes. The Raiders led by as many as 28 points in the contest.
Despite being outrebounded and posting a season-low 34 rebounds, GRCC made up the difference with elite shooting and defensive pressure. The Raiders knocked down a season-best 36.8 percent from three-point range (7-for-19) while holding South Suburban to just 6.3 percent from beyond the arc (1-for-16). GRCC also capitalized at the free throw line, going 21-for-25 (84 percent).
Sophomore Tianna Daye, the Raiders' leading scorer on the season, bounced back in a big way after being held to a career-low two points on Friday, pouring in 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the line. She also had a game-high four steals.
Harmonie Benton and Sophia Wozniak each dished out a team-high five assists, while Averi Peot led GRCC with six rebounds and added nine points and two blocks.
The Raiders will next compete at the SC4 Classic in Port Huron on January 2 and 3.
Men's Basketball
South Suburban 99, GRCC 82
The Raider men, coming off a win in Friday's opener, dropped a 99–82 decision to the 13th-ranked South Suburban Bulldogs, falling to 9–3 on the season. South Suburban improved to 9–2 with the victory.
GRCC was competitive early, leading by as many as seven points in the first half. However, South Suburban closed the half on a strong run to take a 47–40 advantage into the break. The Bulldogs controlled the second half, building a lead as large as 23 points to secure the win.
The Raiders struggled with ball security, committing 18 turnovers and recording a season-low 15 assists, but were efficient at the free throw line, shooting a season-best 90 percent (18-for-20).
All-Tournament players, Zeek Jackson and Nate Keil, each scored 20 points to pace GRCC. Jackson finished 8-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, while Keil went 7-for-13 overall and also hit 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. EJ Bowman added 11 points and a game-high four assists.
The Raider men will return to action with a makeup game at Muskegon Community College on January 3.
