Women's Soccer: Raiders Earn 6-0 Win and Secure First-Ever Regional Berth
The GRCC women's soccer team finished its regular season on a high note, earning a decisive 6-0 win over Alpena Community College — their fifth shutout of the season — to finish 6-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play, good for sixth place and a spot in the regional tournament for the first time in the program's three-year history.
The Raiders dominated all aspects of the match, outshooting Alpena 34-3 (20 on goal) and holding a commanding 19-3 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Skylar Albrecht opened the scoring in the 13th minute with her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Lanee Lewkowski, who added a goal of her own in the 32nd minute from Nadia Perez. Freshman Eileen Campos found the back of the net twice in a two-minute span late in the first half — the first goals of her collegiate career — both assisted by Ellie Lazowski.
In the second half, Lewkowski netted her team-leading seventh goal off assists from Albrecht and Quincy Brown, before sophomore Olivia Dykstra capped the scoring in the 66th minute with her first goal of the season, assisted by Valerie Rosas.
After the victory, the Raiders celebrated the careers of sophomores Dykstra, Eevi Eskola, Julianna Morales, Taylor Bent, and Keaton Morris — a group that helped elevate the program to its first postseason appearance.
GRCC will open NJCAA Region XII Tournament play at Jackson College on Tuesday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m.
Men's Soccer: Tilly's Hat Trick Powers Raiders to 8-0 Victory
The GRCC men's team capped its season with an emphatic 8-0 win over Alpena, highlighted by freshman Leo Tilly's third hat trick of the year and three Raiders scoring their first goals of the season.
The Raiders poured on the pressure from the opening whistle, scoring just 10 seconds into the match when Tilly netted his seventh goal of the season from Andy Mendez-Reyes. Tilly added another in the 13th minute before Jaime Bautista, Anthony Jones, and Elvin Bajric each scored later in the first half to make it 5-0 at halftime.
Tilly completed his hat trick in the 64th minute, bringing his season total to nine goals. Sophomore Brady Fox and Austin Bouma each tallied their first goals of the season in the second half, with Bouma's strike in the 82nd minute ending the match early via the NJCAA's eight-goal mercy rule.
GRCC outshot Alpena 36-5 (17 on goal) and held a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks in one of their most complete performances of the season.
Following the win, the Raiders honored their six sophomores — Bajric, Brandon Gomez, Bouma, Bautista, Mendez-Reyes, and Fox — for their contributions to the program.
GRCC finishes the season 5-8-2 overall, just missing out on its third straight regional playoff spot, but ending the year on a dominant note.
