Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

GRCC Volleyball, Women's Soccer Shine on Homecoming

Men's Soccer Battles in Tough Loss

Oct. 1, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College celebrated Homecoming with a full slate of conference matchups at the Midwest United FC Complex and the Ford Fieldhouse on Thursday, highlighted by dominant wins from the women's soccer and nationally-ranked volleyball teams.

Women's Soccer:

The Raiders opened the day with a convincing 4-0 victory over Lake Michigan College, improving to 4-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. GRCC's defense was airtight, holding the Red Hawks to just one shot in the match while producing 27 shots and 10 corner kicks of their own.

Freshman Lanee Lewkowski wasted no time putting GRCC on the board, scoring just 2:26 into the game on a cross from Skylear Albrecht, who tallied her third assist of the season. With under five minutes left in the first half, Nadia Perez netted her first goal of the year off a cross from Quincy Brown.

Lewkowski added her second of the match and fourth of the season early in the second half with a well-placed free kick, and then returned the favor by assisting Albrecht's fourth goal of the year midway through the half to cap the scoring.

The Raiders will continue conference play at Kellogg Community College on Oct. 3 at 1 p.m., looking to avenge an earlier 3-1 loss to the Bruins.

Men's Soccer:

The GRCC men's team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 contest to Lake Michigan College, falling to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, entering the break tied 0-0 after each side tallied six shots. The Red Hawks broke through in the 60th minute and added another five minutes later to secure the win.

GRCC's Zander Daley recorded five saves, while Jaime Bautista led the Raiders' offensive attack with four of the team's 14 shots.

The Raiders return to action on Oct. 3, visiting Aquinas College's JV squad in a non-conference matchup.

Volleyball:

Capping the Homecoming action inside the Ford Fieldhouse, the 15th-ranked GRCC volleyball team earned its seventh straight win and fifth consecutive sweep, defeating North Central Michigan College 25-21, 25-12, 25-20.

The Raiders improved to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play, remaining perfect in all-time meetings against NCMC with seven sweeps.

After grinding out the opening set against a scrappy Timberwolves defense, GRCC's serving powered them to a dominant second-set win. Freshman Ella Thayer sparked an 8-0 run with her serves, stretching a 13-9 lead into a commanding 20-9 advantage.

The Raiders pulled away late in the third set, with freshman Vanessa Walker sealing the match with a solo block.
