Box Score May 16, 2024, SUMMIT TWP, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team used the long ball and superb pitching to defeat Jackson College in the quarterfinals of the Region XII Division II Tournament, 7-2, on Thursday.
Trevin Laming opened up the scoring with a solo home run - his sixth of the season - in the bottom of the third inning. The Raiders lead off hitter tacked on another RBI later in the game on a sacrifice fly.
Dylan Nguyen (2-for-4) gave the Raiders a 2-0 advantage after a sharp single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth.
The Raiders would break the game open with four more runs in the seventh to go ahead 7-0. Jacob Pitt hit a two-run homer - his fourth of the season - and Joey Hysell added a solo shot, his fifth of the season.
Lucas McKinney gave up no runs in seven innings of work while striking out three, to pick up his ninth win of the year.
18th ranked GRCC (36-10) now plays 15th ranked Kellogg in the semi-finals on Friday at 1 pm.
