March 13, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Community College softball team was back in action on Wednesday and in its home opener swept Grace Christian University, 12-1 and 11-3, both in five innings.
Macy Huver picked up the win in game one, allowing just four hits while striking out four batters. The GRCC offense racked up 10 hits and were led by Emily Obenauf, who went 3-for-3 with a triple, a steal and three runs scored.
Macey Springer got the start in the nightcap, striking out five to pick up her second win of the season.
Grace Christian had a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Raiders bats finally came alive. Brynn McArthur (2-for-3) led the inning off with a double and two batters later scored after a triple by Obenauf (2-for-3). Chloe Meyers hit a double in the inning as well. Meyers led the team with three hits in the game.
Grace Christian tied the game at three in the next inning, but the Raiders responded with eight more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Nine of the Raiders 14 hits came in the final inning, including the game winning single by Alyssa Wierenga (2-for-4).
GRCC is scheduled to play next on March 28 when it begins conference play against Delta College.
