Feb. 10, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College women's basketball team fell just short to the visitors from Bay College on Saturday, but not without a valiant effort by David Glazier's Raiders.
Bay looked like it was going to cruise to it's 13th win in a row after a dominating start, leading 25-11 after the first quarter. But the Raiders held the visitors to just 23 points the remainder of the game. Both teams were held without a field goal though in the final 2:04 of the game, and Bay would hold to win 48-43.
For GRCC, it was its fourth time in the past eight games holding its opponent to under 50 points. They also held Bay to its lowest field goal percentage (22.7%) of the season.
Tia Richard led all scorers with 17 points and Sophia Modderman had maybe the best game of her collegiate career, with a season-high 10 points and she made it her first ever double-double after leading the team with 10 rebounds.
Ava Schultz finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
In the men's game, Bay College, ranked 19th in the latest NJCAA DII poll, stayed undefeated in the conference with a 97-82 win over the Raiders.
Tristan McRoberts led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-14 from the floor, 3-of-3 from deep, and added six assists.
Jovante Jones (6-of-9 FG) finished with 16 points and four steals and Jack Agema added 15 points on a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor (3-of-3 from deep) and also had four steals.
Joe Francis had a career-high seven assists.
GRCC travels to Muskegon Community College next Wednesday to look to get back on the winning track with just five games potentially remaining.
