Nov. 22, 2024, CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The No. 12 ranked Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team concluded an impressive 2024 season with a hard-fought loss in the NJCAA DII National Championship. Facing No. 3 ranked Kirkwood Community College, GRCC fell 3-1 in a tightly contested match, 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25.

Match Leaders for GRCC:

  • Lillian Peterson: Led the team with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, also contributed two blocks and an ace.
  • Taylor Kik: Posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, along with three blocks and an ace.
  • Sophia Ritsema: Recorded a team-high five blocks and four kills.
  • Lizzie MacIntosh: Tallied seven kills, 11 digs, and three blocks.
  • Ava Schultz: Contributed seven kills with a .278 hitting percentage and two solo blocks.
  • Cece Huizingh: Team-high 15 digs.
  • Carle Bruggema: Registered 16 assists, nine digs, and an ace.
  • Sylvia Peterson: Added nine digs.
  • Meredith Simmons: Recorded 13 digs, two blocks, and an ace.
  • Ava Tarsi: Team-high 18 assists with eight digs.
The 2024 season included the teams 13th conference title, 11th MCCAA title and 13th regional title.  It also included a final NJCAA DII ranking of 12th, a win streak of 23 matches, and eight players that received post season awards.

Kik was named the Conference Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year after leading the team in kills and was second in digs.

Kik, MacIntosh, and Peterson were all named First Team All-Conference, All-MCCAA and All-Region. Setters Tarsi and Bruggema were named Second Team All-Conference.  Schultz, Simmons and Huizingh each received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Tarsi was also named to the conference's All-Freshman Team.
