Box Score 2 Sept. 23, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a record setting victory by the Grand Rapids Community College's women's volleyball team, the men's soccer team took the field earning a huge 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday.
It took just 44 minutes for the No. 11 ranked GRCC volleyball team to upend the visitors from Alpena Community College by a score of 25-13, 25-2, 25-12.
In the second set, GRCC set team records for fewest points allowed, two; most aces in a set, 12; and most points earned, 23 (12 aces, nine kills, two blocks).
Two match records were also set with the team totaling 20 aces and Braelyn Berry finishing with 10 aces. GRCC also didn't have any reception errors.
Three sophomores had milestone days in the team's ninth straight win. Vienna Koenigsknecht picked up her 400th career dig, Autumn Cole picked up her 200th career dig, and Berry earned her 200th career kill and 300th career dig.
The volleyball team is now 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
GRCC's No. 12 ranked men's soccer faced one of its toughest opponents of the season and came away 2-1 winners to stay atop the latest NJCAA Region XII standings.
Tri-C got on the board just five minutes into the match and its lead would hold until Chibambo Munguakonkwa tied the match with a goal three minutes and 25 seconds into the second half. Twenty three and a half minutes later Munguakonkwa assisted on the game winner by Jordan Marquez.
The men's soccer team is now 8-1-1 overall and stay perfect at home with a 6-0 record.
The women's soccer team and softball teams were also in action on Saturday, with the soccer team losing to No. 18 ranked Kellogg Communtity College, 6-0; and the softball team winning one of three games at the Whistlestop complex in Byron Center.
Samara Kolehouse, Britney Cisler, Maddie Miller, Macy Springer, Alyssa Wierenga and Brynn McArthur all tallied two hits on the day.
