Golf team wins second straight tournament and volleyball team defeats Bay College

XC teams with strong performances at LCC Invite

Sept. 22, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a busy day for the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders, the men's golf team brought back its second straight tournament title and the women's volleyball team cruised to it's eighth win in a row. 

Meanwhile at the cross country meet in Lansing, two men took almost a minute off their times from last week's meet, and two women set personal collegiate records. 

At the Grayling Country Club, the men's golf team consisted of eight players and they all shot 80 or better to bring home the title with a score of 297; one stroke better than second place Mott Community College.VB beats Bay 3 1

Drew Harrington, Hunter Schuiling and McCoy DenHartigh all shot a 73, and finished inside the top-10. 

Evan Kaiser, 76; Jayson Bultman, 77; Brady Doyle, 78; Zach Basiaga, 78; and Ty Marchlewski, 80 rounded out the Raider golfers.

On the volleyball court, the No. 11 ranked Raiders cruised to its eighth win in a row after a 3-1 win over Bay College; 25-17, 25-18, 24-26, 25-14.

Lizzie MacIntosh, Ava Schultz and Lilly Peterson all had 11 kills, with Schultz being the teams most efficient attacker with a .471 hitting percentage.

xc at lcc inviteBerry, who earned conference defensive player of the week honors, along with teammate Carle Bruggema, combined for four aces and 17 digs.  Vienna Koenigsknecht led all players with 13 digs. 

In Lansing, the men's cross country team finished with a strong 12th place finish out of 18 teams, and third place among all junior colleges.  Hillsdale College won the event with an average time of 26:03.  The Raiders were led once again by freshman Joseph VanderKooi who finished 46th with a time of 27:41.

Dan Kehoe, 28:18; Austin Winkle, 28:46; Anthony Lawlor, 28:50; and Isaac Deleon, 35:41 rounded out the Raider runners. 

GRCC's women's cross country team was once again led by freshman Anna Tubbergen who finished 21st overall and second among all junior college runners with a time of 20:19.

Elicia Land set a new PR with a time of 21:30 and Emily Adamy finished in a time of 27:06 in her first collegiate race.
