Box Score 2 Sept. 12, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Abigail Buttermore's hat trick and Lilly Peterson's 12 kills led Grand Rapids Community College's women's soccer and volleyball teams to victories over their respective opponents on Tuesday.
The women's soccer team kicked off first with GRCC and St. Clair County Community College playing a pretty even match until Buttermore scored the game winning goal with four minutes to go.
It was the second hat trick in the past three matches for Buttermore who currently ranks second in the nation in goals scored with 13. She is also on a seven match scoring streak.
Lesli Luna, Alexandria Ellsworth Allyson Seevers had assists for the Raiders who are now 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference. St. Clair County dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
In the nightcap, the No. 11 ranked GRCC volleyball team battled arch rival Muskegon Community College with many lead changes in the opening set. But with the score tied at 24, freshman setter Carle Bruggema and freshman right side hitter Ava Schultz finished off the Jayhawks with kills to win 26-24.
Sets two and three were all Raiders, with GRCC winning 25-15 and 25-14.
Eight players scored for the Raiders with Peterson leading the way with 12 kills and five blocks, including three solo ones.
Schultz hit a career-high .538 with seven kills and no attack errors. Bruggema hit .444 with a career-high five kills and added 32 assists and an ace. Braelyn Berry added seven kills and a team-high four aces and 18 digs.
GRCC's women's soccer team returns to action Sept. 15 at Marion University-Ancilla. The volleyball team hits the road tomorrow in a matchup against North Central Michigan College.
