Nov. 4, 2023, PORT HURON, Mich. – For the 12th time in the history of the program, the Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team are regional champs after sweeping Mott College in the championship match on Saturday, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18.

Meanwhile back in Illinois, the men's basketball team continued its perfect start to the season with a 76-58 victory at Harper College.

On the volleyball court an incredible dig by Vienna Koenigsknecht led to the ticket punching kill by freshman outside hitter Lizzie MacIntosh to send the team back to Iowa for this year's national tournament.

It's pretty hard to top the career high performances the two of them had Friday night, but check this out.  MacIntosh, whom later would be named the tournament's most valuable player, had a match-high 16 kills, and set two more career highs.  The former Rockford Ram, had zero hitting errors in the first time in her career and hit a career-high .593.  To top it off, MacIntosh hit the 300-kill milestone mark.

Koenigsknecht, who also found herself named to the All-Tournament Team, finished with 25 kills, just one shy of her career high that she set on Friday. She also had zero reception errors for the 12th time this season.  As a team, GRCC had just two for the entire match.

Joining MacIntosh and Koenigsknecht on the All-Tournament Team was Braelyn Berry, whom two days earlier was named the Conference Player of the Year.  Berry's 13 kills and 11 digs was her 15th career double-double and fifth in a row.

Sophia Ritsema also had an outstanding tournament performance.  She hit .500 in the final with seven kills and two blocks and finished with 21 kills and five blocks.
