Oct. 29, 2023, MARYSVILLE, Mich. – The 17th ranked Grand Rapids Community College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision in the Region XII Championship match on Sunday.
It was a defensive battle until Xander Fredericken netted his third goal of the season in the 35th minute of the match. Elijah Maas and Lucas Freriks combined on the assist. For Maas it was his team-high 17th, and Freriks it was his fourth and 20th overall point.
Schoolcraft, ranked No. 6 in the nation, netted its first goal just 20 seconds into the second half, and two more at the 63rd minute and 73rd minute of the match.
GRCC had 15 total shots compared to 25 for Schoolcraft. Daniel Beyer had 10 saves for the Raiders.
For their outstanding play, Maas, Fredericken and Freriks all earned spots on the Region XII All-Tournament team.
The Raiders fell to 13-4-1 in its inaugural season and will await a decision by the NJCAA on whether or not it will get an at-large bid for the National Tournament.
