Women's Basketball Finishes Third in the Conference after an OT Win on Sophomore Night

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- In the regular season finale on Wednesday night, the Raiders held on for a 79-70 overtime victory over the visiting Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley Community College.  With the win, the Raiders (14-15, 12-6) locked up a third place finish (tied with Jackson College) in the conference, their best finish since finishing third in 2015-16.  The Cougars concluded their season with a 9-20, 3-15 record. The Raiders dominated the first three quarters, leading by as many as 18 with under a minute to go in the third.  The Cougars muscled their way back, outscoring the Raiders 23-9, while only allowing one field goal in the fourth, to force overtime.  Layne Steele hit the game tying three with eight seconds to go, and the Raiders missed a potential game winning shot with under four ticks left.

In the extra period, it was all Raiders.  Bethany Chick (Grand Rapids, MI) scored on the opening possession and the Raiders never looked back.  Danielle Lamancusa (Rockford, MI) scored 8 of her 15 total points in the period as her team outscored the Cougars 15-6. 

Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) scored 12 of the Raiders first 16 points in the game and finished with a game high 20 points on Sophomore Night at the Ford Fieldhouse.  She connected on 7 of 15 from the field and totaled 7 rebounds and 7 assists.  Fellow sophomore Kendall Griffioen (Hudsonville, MI) totaled 8 points, 10 rebounds and 8 blocks, while Chick finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds.

The Raiders (winners of 6 of their last 7 games) will enter the District Tournament with a number 4 seed and will square off against Kellogg Community College, the 5 seed.  The opening round game will be played at GRCC on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM. The winner of that game will advance to the Semi-Finals on Thursday at 3:00 PM to take on Conference Champion, Muskegon Community College.  GRCC will be hosting the entire Great Lakes West and East District Semis/Finals for both the men and women.  Additional information about the tournament can be found on the Tournament Central page, including the entire schedule, live streaming links and live stat links.
