Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Freshman pitcher
Alexa Abrahamson (Wyoming, MI) threw her first collegiate no-hitter Saturday afternoon and the Raiders finished off the week a perfect 4-0. The Raiders are now back at .500 in the conference (10-10) and sit all alone in fifth place, behind Jackson College whom they play this Tuesday.
Conference Standings
Abrahamson nearly accomplished the special feat on Tuesday April 16th against Glen Oaks Community College, but the no-hit bid ended in the 5th inning on a one out base hit. She retired the first ten batters and ended up only allowing four base runners all game. Her team's offense had 10 hits and the Raiders won 8-0....
Andi Chipman (Saranac, MI) and
Maddie Marble (Sparta, MI) each had three hits. Marble added four RBI and had two doubles.
In game two against the Vikings, the Raiders totaled 16 hits and beat the visitors 12-4 completing the four game series sweep. If it wasn't for one critical error in the third, the Raiders would have won 8-0, but the Vikings took advantage of the mistake scoring four unearned runs in the inning. Freshman
Brooke Klein (Coopersville, MI) allowed just three hits the remainder of the game to pick up her third win of the season.... Marble also went 3 for 4 in the game, adding another double and her team leading fifth home run of the year. Klein was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Saturday afternoon the Raiders took on Ancilla College winning 8-0 in both games to complete the season sweep over them as well. In game one, Abrahamson threw her no hit gem in just 56 pitches. If it wasn't for a batter getting to first base on a Strikeout-Passed Ball, Alexa would have had a perfect game. After that play she would retire the next 14 batters to pick up her sixth win of the year.... As for the offense, Chipman had three of the Raiders 10 total hits. She also had a triple and two RBI. Sparta's Marble and
Kate Stearns also had two RBI.
After a shaky start in game two, Klein mowed down the Chargers, retiring 10 of the last 11 batters she faced. She threw just 42 pitches, walking none and giving up just three hits. Freshman
Tayler Goorhouse (Kentwood, MI), pitching in her first game of the year, got to come finish the game in the fifth, retiring all three batters she faced.... Stearns, Chipman and
Sierra Stoepker (Freeport, MI) all had two hits a piece.
The Raiders should have a busy week on the field with eight games between Tuesday and Saturday. They travel to take on Jackson on Tuesday. Then on Thursday travel to Benton Harbor to play LMC in a couple makeup games. Friday and Saturday they return home to take on Cornerstone University JV and Muskegon CC.
