Donaldson, Ind. -- The Raiders are now on a five game win streak after sweeping Ancilla College on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The Raiders, who outscored the Chargers by an impressive 40 runs, improve their record to 5-12 and 4-0 in conference play. The Chargers, who played host to all four games, drop to 1-9 (0-4).
The Raiders started the season 0-11 after a very tough schedule down in Florida against all Division 1 JUCO schools, that included three games to #1 ranked Chipola and one to #15 Wallace CC-Dothan. They then headed to face the #2 ranked team in Division 2 on March 16th and in game two defeated Sinclair CC 3-2.
Logan Campbell (Belding, MI) pitched a suburb game, giving up just two hits while striking out four. The Raiders had 10 hits in the game including a 3 for 4 performance from sophomore outfielder
Calvin Syrjala (Greenville, MI).
Saturday, the Raiders racked up 34 runs against Ancilla, winning game one 17-2 in five innings and then winning 17-6 in game two. In the first game, Syrjala was 2 of 4 with 3 RBI, including one of his two home runs on the weekend. Freshman catcher
Jim Wressel (Paw Paw, MI) who batted .667 during the weekend was 2 of 2 with 3 RBI. Campbell had another strong outing, striking out 7 while walking none to pick up his second straight win. In the slugfest of game two, the Raiders totaled 19 hits, three each from
Brady Paganelli (Grandville, MI) and
Jared Bujdos (Ada, MI) and four from centerfielder
Jordan Ball (Sparta, MI). Bujdos and Ball also had 3 RBI each.
Noah Scyzoryk (Waterford, MI) picked his first collegiate win giving up no earned runs in 3.2 innings of relief.
The pitching performances of
Jacob Wosinski (Lowell, MI) and
Troy Hedges (Harrison Twp., MI) headlined Sunday's 6-1 and 9-0 wins. In game one, Wosinski struck out 12, walked none and gave up just 2 hits in the complete game. His offensive racked up 10 hits from eight different Raider batters. In game two, Hedges finished his complete game with 15 K's against just two walks and allowing just three base hits. The Raiders had 10 hits once again, led by Paganelli's three, with
Alec Lockwood (Grand Rapids, MI) going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.
The Raider offensive improved over 65 points to their season average after racking up 54 hits during the weekend. Paganelli, the teams leading hitter (.319 BA), went 8 for 14 (.571) and scored seven runs.
Sam Briggs (Traverse City, MI) also batted .571 while Bujdos and freshman first baseman
Dakota Phillips (Middleville, MI) each batted .500 combining for 13 hits. The Raider pitching staff had an ERA of 1.62, striking out 38 while walking just four batters.
