Muskegon, Mich. -- The Raiders led wire to wire and by as many 27 in route to an 88-68 win at Muskegon Community College Wednesday night. GRCC, now winners of five in a row, improve their record to 10-4 overall and stay perfect at 3-0 in the MCCAA-Western Conference. The loss evens the Jayhawks record to 6-6 and they fall to 1-2 in the conference.
The Raiders led 30-20 after 12 minutes of action, but the Jayhawks got back within one after a 9-0 run over the next two minutes. A fast break bucket by Muskegon with 3:18 to go made it a two point game (34-32), but the Jayhawks couldn't score another point and the Raiders went into the break up 42-32. The Raiders shot 47% compared to 30% for the Jayhawks.
High efficiency continued for the Raiders in the second half as they shot 51% compared to just 35% for MCC. Rebounding was also huge in the half as the Raiders had a 36-16 advantage. For the game GRCC won the rebound battle 62-41.
Sammie Ryans (Kentwood, MI) shined once again, knocking in a game high 25 points on 11 of 18 shooting. He also added 7 rebounds and a couple steals in 40 minutes of action.
Diego Robinson's (Lansing, MI) late free throw capped off the sophomores 5th double-double of the year. The big man had 10 points and season high 20 rebounds, improving his rebound average to a solid 8.6 per game.
Camren Spicer (Grand Rapids, MI) had a career day for the Raiders. The freshman guard came off the bench to score 20 points (surpassing his previous high of 17) on 8 of 10 shooting and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. He also added a season high 8 rebounds while dishing out 3 assists.
The Raiders will return to their home court for the first time all season this Friday as they take on Lansing CC in the newly renovated Ford Fieldhouse at 7:30 pm. The Stars are just 4-9 overall, but tied for 2nd in the league with a 2-1 record, including a 26 points win vs Jackson on Wednesday night.
