Kanu with 21 Rebounds and Raiders Cruise Past Bruins 95-68

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The Raiders had twice as many rebounds as the visiting Bruins of Kellogg and coasted to a 27 point win in the Hunsberger Arena, keeping them in first place in the league.  The Raiders had 68 rebounds, which was any many points as Kellogg would score all night, in a 95-68 victory.  The win lifts the Raiders to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the league while Kellogg evens there record at 8-8 and 3-3.

Sophomore Ike Kanu (Grand Rapids, MI), had nearly a third of his team's total rebounds.  The conference's second best rebounder (with 209) finished with a career high 21 on the night to go with his 11 points.  Ike now as 11 double-doubles and an impressive 14 games of 10 or more rebounds.  He's also second in the league with a 11.6 rebound average.

Luke Bronkema's Raiders, whom have won all 5 meetings in his tenure against Kellogg, jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the game.  Kellogg responded with a 21-6 run to grab it's first lead of the ball game, 23-22 with 6:56 left in the half.  The Bruins scored the next three points to lead 26-22, but the Raiders finished the half on a 13-7 run to take a 2 point lead going into halftime.

The Bruins Omar Tabb, Jr. connected on a three pointer on the opening possession of the second half to give his team the lead back, 36-35.   William Otole (Grand Rapids, MI) responded with one of his five three pointers on the night and the Raiders would not trail again. Otole now has 48 three's and is shooting 44.9% from behind the arc, both good for fourth best in the MCCAA.

The Raiders made 8 of 18 from three point range in the second half and out scored the Bruins 60-35 on 47% overall from the field.  Sophomore standout Sammie Ryans hit four of his five three's in the second half. He now has 57 on the year, good for third best in the league.

All five Raider starters scored in double figures and were led by Ryan's 23.  Otole finished with 21 to go with his 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Diego Robinson (Lansing, MI) (the leagues third best rebounder) finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  David Hearns (Hazel Park, MI) chipped in with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.  D'Avery Moore (Kentwood, MI) came off the bench to score 9 points and grab 8 rebounds.

The Raiders have just two more games before the midway point of the conference season.  They will look to stay in first place as they take on Kalamazoo Valley CC on Wednesday the 30th.  The Cougars are 4-14 overall and 2-4 in the league.
