Box Score Caledonia, MICH – GRCC's baseball team got the best Macomb's Monarchs in a 16-9 win at the MCCAA's Region XII Seeding Tournament yesterday at Davenport University's Farmers Insurance Sports Complex.
GRCC's
Calvin Syrjala led the team going 4-for-6 at the plate with two doubles scoring 4 runs and batting 4 more in.
Alec Lockwood went 3-for-4 scoring 1 run and batting two in.
Alec Overbeek walked twice while hitting 1-for-4 and scoring 3 runs.
Austin Anderson's 5 plate appearances produced 2 hits , 1 run and 3 RBI and a walk.
Josh Greiffendorf earned the win for the Raiders pitching 3 innings while giving up one hit, no runs and two walks.
Will Friend started on the mound pitching 3 innings giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs and walking 4 batters with 1 strikeout.
Michael Casterline and
Andrew Bojas both saw time in relief.
Macomb's Smith started for the Monarchs pitching 3 innings allowing 7 hits, 4 earned runs, one walk and one strikeout. Thompson took the loss for Macomb pitching two innings with 4 hits, 6 runs—two earned—four walks and two strikeouts.
After the dust settled from the battle of the East and West's number 3s, GRCC walked away to be the M5 seed playing Lansing Community College who fell to Kellogg Community College in the MCCAA Championship game. With the loss, Macomb becomes the M6 seed in Region XII play and faces Sinclair in the first round of the tournament.
The year's NJCAA Region XII Tournament play takes place at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, OH from May 16
th to May 19
th with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Enid, OK.
