Muskegon, MI – GRCC's softball team lost a close pair of games—2-3 & 5-6—to Muskegon Community College's Jayhawks, to fall to 3-26 on the season and 2-19 in MCCAA play. Muskegon improved to 12-21 overall and 7-13 after the pair of wins.
In game one the Raiders held a one run lead heading into the fifth inning 1-0, but a Jayhawk double and a fielding error scored two run to give Muskegon the lead. The Raiders tied up the game in the 6
th after
Makayla Beld stole third and reached home following a throwing error by the catcher. Muskegon responded in the bottom of the 6
th with a single to center field scoring the would-be game winning run.
Josie Manion (0-4) took the loss for the Raiders pitching 6 inning allowing 7 hits, 3 runs and two walks with two strikeouts.
Muskegon's Mikala MacGeorge earned the win for Muskegon pitching 7 innings while allowing 5 hits, 2 runs—none earned—one walk and three strikeouts.
Game two started out hot for the Raiders with a
Sierra Stoepker homerun to center to put the Raiders up 1-0, but Muskegon battled back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 with a home run of their own. The Raiders went up 5-1 by the end of the third inning, but Muskegeon whittled away at GR's lead in the 4
th to tie the game at 5-5.
In the sixth inning with two outs and runners on frist and third Muskegon's Weck hit a single to center to score the runner on third to go up 6-5.
GRCC was unable to respond in the 7th with Stoepker fouling out, Beld lining out and
Autumn O'Keefe striking out swinging to end the game.
The Raiders will host Lansing Community College for a double header on the 27
th at 3PM.
