Grand Rapids, MI. -- The GRCC Men's Basketball team (24-8 overall) has earned its second consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, IL. The Raiders advanced after defeating Ancilla College (IN) in the Region XII, District 9 Championship game, 85-72. On Tuesday, March 13, the NJCAA released the 16 team bracket, seeding the teams No. 1 (highest ranked team) through No. 16 (lowest ranked team). The Raiders heard their name called as the No 9 seed who will face the home team No. 8 seed Danville Area Community College at 6:30pm CT on Tuesday, March 20th. The winner will face No. 1 overall seed, Triton (IL) on Wednesday at 6pm CT. The loser will play on Wednesday at 3pm CT vs. the loser of Triton/Ulster County.
During the NJCAA Region XII, District 9 Tournament, three Raiders were named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Curtis Davison and Sophomore Anthony McIntosh were named All-Tournament for their efforts, while Sophomore Zachary Pangborn was named Tournament MVP. Head Coach Luke Bronkema was honored as the District 9 Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. The Raiders will practice in Grand Rapids through Friday, before leaving for Danville, IL on Sunday, March 18th.
