Lansing Uses Big First Half to Top Raiders on Saturday (2/10/2018)

Box Score Lansing, MI. -- The GRCC Men's Basketball team entered Saturdays (2/10/2018) matchup with Lansing looking to gain ground on Lake Michigan College in the MCCAA conference standings. It seemed that a struggling Lansing team would be a great opportunity to secure a big conference road win. But Lansing would use a huge first half and great team basketball to down the Raiders by a final score of 96 to 76. After the loss, GRCC moves into a two way tie for fourth place in the MCCAA-West with Muskegon Community College. The Raiders and the Jayhawks, who split their regular season meetings, both sit at 7-5 in the conference with six games remaining.

On Saturday, behind hot shooting (54%), the Stars took a 56-38 halftime lead, never looking back. The Raiders had four players in double figures, Anthony McIntosh led the way with 20 points on 8-20 shooting, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 turnovers, Zachary Pangborn scored 17, Curtis Davison 14 and Darron Ewing Jr. tallied 10. The Raiders shot 38% from the floor and a dismal 22% from behind the arc on 22 attempts. In contrast, the Stars hit 48% from the floor and 41% from three point land, going 12/29 for the game.

In the end GRCC's defense and lack of ball movement doomed the Raiders. On GRCC's 30 made field goals, only five were assisted. Lansing dished out 19 assists on 39 made field goals. The Stars finished the game with six players in double figures. Joshua Horford led the way with 22 points and 8 rebounds, while center Max Walz finished with a double-double, 12 points and 17 rebounds. Other double figure scorer's were Tony Trice with 20 points, Kaleb Barrett 17, Jabril Abdur-Rahim 13 and Cameron Houston 10.

The Raiders will return to the Ford Fieldhouse on Wednesday, February 14th to face Glen Oaks Community College. Game time is 7:30pm.
