Grand Rapids, MI. – The GRCC Baseball team has finished the regular season with a 25-25 (18-6 MCCAA-W) record, placing them in second place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's Western Conference. The Raiders ended the conference season against the Bruins of Kellogg, who entered the four game series with a 19-1 conference mark. In order to win the conference, the second place Raiders would have to take all four games. GRCC fought to the end, winning the first three games. In the end, Kellogg won the final game of the series, winning the MCCAA-Western Conference crown with a 20-4 record.
The top three teams from the MCCAA-West and East, along with two schools from the Ohio Community College Conference have earned a spot in next weeks (May 17-20) NJCAA Regional, held in Battle Creek, MI.
NJCAA Region XII Tournament Site. The winner of the Region XII tournament will advance to the
NJCAA National Tournament in Enid, Oklahoma (May 27 – June 3).
The Raiders' first round foe will be the Stars from Lansing Community College, game time is slated for 3:30PM on Wednesday, May 17 at Bailey park, in Battle Creek, MI. Lansing is the second overall seed, while the Raiders are the fourth (of eight). Lansing finished atop the MCCAA-Eastern Conference with an impressive 35-14 (21-7) record. GRCC faced Lansing twice during the regular season, losing both games. The Raiders will start their ace,
Sam Traver (Potterville ('15)), who boasts a win-loss record of 6-2 on the year with a 1.99 ERA. The Stars probable starting pitcher will either be
Andrew Brighton (7-0, 3.11 ERA) or
Blake Dahlstrom (6-1, 3.63 ERA).
The winner will play on Thursday, May 18
th at 11:30 AM against the winner of No. 1 Kellogg CC and No. 5 Macomb CC.
The loser will play on Wednesday, May 17
th at 8:00 PM, against the loser of No. 1 Kellogg CC and No. 5 Macomb CC.
