Softball splits with Glen Oaks to pick up first conference win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's softball team split their doubleheader with Glen Oaks this past weekend dropping their first game 3-5 while picking up their first conference win in the second game, 7-3.

With the win the Raiders have a 2-10 overall record while 1-5 in conference play resting in 7th place in the MCCAA West.  GRCC's loss earned the Vikings their first win in conference play as well and Glen Oaks now rests in 8th in the west
with a 1-7 conference record while 2-14 overall.

Both Lansing and Kalamazoo Valley Community Colleges remain undefeated in MCCAA West action holding first and second place early on this season.

Casey Evans earned her fifth loss of the season for the Raiders in the first game of this past weekend's double-header.  Evans, now 1-5, pitched 7 innings for GRCC allowing 8 hits, 5 earned runs and two walks while striking out one batter.

Maylynn Kapteyn, Alexis Grondman and Danielle Schutte each recorded doubles in the outing with Kapteyn hitting two.

???????Kapteyn went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Schutte hit 3-of-4 and Grondman went 1-for-4 at the plate.

Josie Manion's 6th inning sac fly yielded the only RBI of the game for GRCC.

Glen Oaks' Paige Gust earned the win for the Vikings allowing 9 hits, 3 runs—none earned—and two strikeouts.

In the second game Manion took the mound and pitched 7 innings allowing 7 hits and three earned runs with no walks and 4 strikeouts to earn her first win of the season.

Hannah Tanis and Arica Vasquez each recorded two RBI in the contest with Tanis batting 3-of-4 and Vasquez going 2-of-3 with a walk.

???????Tanis and Kapteyn each recorded doubles.  Kapteyn finished the game batting 1-for-4.

Glen Oaks' Destiny Bell took the loss for the Vikings pitching four innings allowing 11 hits, two earned runs and 1 walk with one strikeout.  Paige Gust pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit while walking 1 and striking out 1.

???????GRCC hosts the Chargers of Ancilla College on April 4th – weather permitting—for a double header starting at 3PM.  Ancilla is winless on MCCAA West play at 0-4 and have a 3-9 overall record thus far in 2017.
