Softball loses two to Lakeland 0-12, 7-11

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's softball team falls to 3-21 overall—2-14 in conference play—after taking a pair of losses against the visiting Lakers of Lakeland Community College, 0-12 and 7-11.

GRCC recorded four hits in the first contest with Josie Manion and Casey Evans each hitting doubles in the game.  Casey Evans took the loss for the Raiders on the mound pitching four innings while striking out for batters allowing 11 hits and 4 earned runs.  Alexis Grondman entered the game for one inning allowing two hits, one earned run and one strikeout. 

Lakeland's Justine Barnes finished 3-for-4 with a double and a triple adding two RBI and two runs scored.  Abagail Mower went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and two runs scored.  McKailyn Woodward pitched four innings striking out 4 for the win.

In game two the Raiders found their rhythm taking a 6-4 lead in the third, but the Laker's bats heated up in the 7th inning and GRCC's 6-5 lead disappeared as the Lakers sent in 6 runs to take an 11-6 lead.  GRCC couldn't rally in the 7th scoring just one run.

???????GRCC recorded 10 hits and 5 RBI as a team in game two.  Hannah Tanis, Casey Evans and Danielle Schutte each finished 2-for-4 at the plate with Tanis recording the only RBI of that group. Evans and Schutte each stole a bag.  Alexis Grondman went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Lakeland's McKailyn Woodward earned the win for her team pitching 3.1 innings allowing 4 hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk.  GRCC's Casey Evans took her second loss of the day pitching 2 innings allowing just three hits and 7 runs—3 earned—with one walk.  Arica Vasquez started for the Raiders pitching four innings allowing 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and two strikeouts.

Softball will host 8-8 Jackson College on Tuesday the 18th and 1-12 Ancilla College on Thursday the 20th before hitting the road for three contests with Lake Michigan, Glen Oaks and Ancilla College starting on Friday the 21st.
