Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's baseball team swept Ancilla College over the weekend taking four wins from the Chargers, 8-3 and 9-2 on the road, and 10-0 and 7-6 at home.
During the first of double header
Sam Traver and
Jackson Shaver each pickied up a win. In the first game Traver struck out 10 while allowing 8 hits and three earned runs. Shaver struck out 7 allowing 6 hits and no earned runs in the second.
Dalton Phillips led the his team in RBI in the first game with 2 RBI batting 2-for-4 while adding a run of his own.
Jacob Augustyn led the team in runs with 2 batting 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In the second game Phillips went 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Augustyn hit 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and three runs scored.
Back at home on Sunday GRCC again delivered with
Bruce Buurstra and
Michael Casterline picking up wins. Buurstra struck out 4 batters allowing no earned runs while allowing 5 hits. Casterline pitched 4.2 innings striking out 6 batters with no earned runs and only 4 hits.
In the first game at home
Josh Robbins knocked in 3 runs in game one hitting 2-for-3.
Brian Cappiello went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Alec Overbeek batted in two runs going 1-for-2 with one run scored.
GRCC's second game was a bit of a nail biter as the Raiders trailed 4-6 until the 7
th with the help of a two-out
Brian Cappiello RBI double and throwing error to send another Raider home tying the score up 6-6. After Ancilla failed to score in the 8
th the Raiders capitalized after
Adrian Regueiro singled to center and then advanced to second on wild pitch. An intentional walk sent
Jacob Stranz to first with
Austin Anderson at the plate. Anderson's right-center single sent
Regueiro home for the 7-6 win.
Anderson finished the game batting 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Regueiro went 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Milstead finished the game with 2 RBI hitting 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Weather permitting the Raiders are scheduled to visit Macomb on Tuesday the 11
th for a 2PM double header. Macomb is 6-4 in MCCAA play and 11-16 overall.
