8 games remain for 5th place Raider baseball team before Regionals

Grand Rapids, Mich—Ancilla College's Chargers, 1-13 and 2-23, travel to Belknap Park today to take on the GRCC's 10-8 baseball team at 2PM.  GRCC has earned a 14-21 overall record this season having most recently split with Schoolcraft on May 1st.

The Raiders play just four more regular season double headers before Region XII play commences on May 18th with the top six teams from the MCCAA and the top two teams from the south.

Right now GRCC rests in 5th place in the conference—1.5 games behind 4th place Kalamazoo Valley, a half a game ahead of 6th place Muskegon, one game ahead of seventh place Delta, one and one half games ahead of 8th place Macomb and two games ahead of Henry Ford in 9th place.

Given the number of games remaining in the season and the short spread between the middle of the pack in the MCCAA, there are many teams still competing for a berth to the Region XII Tournament.   Each are aiming to win out the remaining games for a chance to compete in postseason play.

Brenden Johnson and Dalton Phillips lead the Raiders at the plate batting .362 and .341 respectively.  Will Harris and Matt Milbourne trail at .313 and .303. Each have an OBP over .400 less Milbourne who falls short by .002.

Jalen Cox leads the Raiders in RBI at 24 batting .267.

Sam Traver and Justin Palmbos continue to lead GRCC from the mound.  Traver has earned a 5-2 record as a starter with an ERA of 2.06 after 48 innings.  He has struck out 44 batters, allowed 19 walks and 42 hits.
Palmbos's 4.53 ERA is the second best after 67 innings with a 3-5 record.  Palmbos leads the team in strikeouts at 66 while allowing only 15 walks and 67 hits.

The Raider bullpen at-large has allowed 180 earned runs to their opponents 104, but have allowed fewer walks and recorded more strikeouts.

Defensively GRCC must tighten up their play to make a serious run in the postseason.  The Raiders have more than double the errors of their opponents in 2016 with 85 compared to 41.

The Raiders have the talent and leadership to make a run to the Region XII tournament and beyond.  The remaining games will rely just as heavily though on their grit and determination.
