University Center, Mich – GRCC's men's basketball season comes to a close in the NJCAA District IX Finals as GRCC fell to Lansing Community College's Stars 70-79.
Leading the charge for the Raiders were
Calvin Ward III (Dallas, TX) and
DeMarkus Stuckey (Saginaw, MI). Ward shot 6-of-17 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line to finish with 15 points while adding 12 rebounds. Ward led his team in rebound and in blocks with 3. Stuckey finished the night 5-of-17 from the field, 3-of-8 from behind the arc, and 1-of-2 from the line for 15 points adding four steals and three assists.
Kevin Brower (Rockford, MI) shot 4-of-6 from the field making 2-of-2 from three-point range while 2-of-2 from the line for 11 points and adding 7 rebounds.
Cameron Burhannon (Indianapolis, IN) finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Lansing shot 42.9% from the field to GRCC's 33.8%. The Raiders were 7-of-30 from 3-point range while Lansing made 1-of-7.
Lansing's Javon Haines led his team in scoring with 25 points shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-11 from the line. Haines added 8 rebounds, 2 assists and two steals. Collin Jones finished the night for the stars with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Mo Ba and Brian Morton combined for 22 points and 13 rebounds.
GRCC's Calvin Ward and DeMarkus Stuckey and Lansing's Colin Jones and Javon Haines were all named to the NJCAA District 9 All-Tournament team while Jones was honored as the tournament's MVP. Lansing Head Coach Mike Ingram was named the 2015 District 9 Coach of the Year.
The Raiders finish the season with a 10-6 MCCAA record while 18-11 overall. Lansing's Stars, now 12-4 and 23-10, carry a 10-game win streak into the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Danville, IL.
