Game Recap: Softball |

Softball falls to KVCC 1-7, 1-6

Grand Rapids, Mich – The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars made quick work of GRCC's softball team dispatching the Raiders 7-1 and 6-1 in their double header Tuesday night. The wins start the Cougars on a two game winning streak following losses to Kellogg Community College this weekend.  KVCC improves to 2-2 in MCCAA play while 9-5 overall.

The losses leave Grand Rapids at the bottom of the MCCAA West having lost six straight games to start conference play 0-6 while 1-13 overall.  GRCC's lone run in game one was delivered by Samantha Krause (Brighton) via a single to center field in the second scoring Katie Klompstra (Wyoming, MI) who doubled to get in position.

Kaitlynn Enders (Buchanan) took the loss for the Raiders pitching seven innings allowing 13 hits with 7 runs—six earned—walking two with no strikeouts.  Kalamazoo's Bailey Clements earned the win pitching seven innings as well allowing seven hits and one earned run with one walk and six strikeouts.

In the second game of the double header GRCC's bats heated up a bit, but the Raiders couldn't capitalize as they left 10 on base while scoring just one run off a Taylor Young (Lansing, MI) single in the second.  Enders pitched 6 of 7 innings for the Raiders allowing 5 hits, two earned runs and two walks.  Michaela Kulak (Cedar Springs) came in for the seventh inning giving up 3 hits and two earned runs while walking two.

Kalamazoo's Hannah Thornton picked up the win pitching four innings allowing 3 hits, no runs, two walks and 6 strikeouts.

Next up for the Raiders are the JV Panthers of Davenport University.  GRCC hosts DU on Friday the 27th for two seven inning games starting at 3PM.
