Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's women's basketball team ends a six-game losing streak with an 88-66 win over the Chargers of Ancilla College. The win marks the first for GRCC's women's team in 2015 and the first for John Maciak as a head coach for GRCC.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 2-9 overall while 1-3 in MCCAA play. Last night's loss to Grand Rapids leaves the Chargers at 8-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Leading GRCC were
Sara Karamol (Rockford, MI) and
Andrea Straw (Rockford, MI). Karamol finished the night with 21 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals while Straw added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
Kristen Schubring (Novi, M) and
Ciara Sundermann (Pleasant Lake, MI) each finished with double digits in scoring with 17 and 15, respectively.
GRCC's
Jayla Branch (Wyoming, MI), who scored 31 and 21 in the Raider's last two contests against Glen Oaks and Muskegon, did not play last night but is expected to return to action soon.
GRCC travels to Jackson on Saturday, January 17
th for a 1:00PM game against the Jets. Jackson's women are 2-10 overall and 1-2 in MCCAA play having lost two straight to the MCCAA West's best two teams to date in NJCAA DII #12 Kalamazoo Valley, now 15-2 overall, and Lake Michigan College now 12-5. Both teams are now 4-0 in conference play.
