Game 1

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Sophomore Jim Eloff committed two errors in the first of two games against Ancilla that allowed the Chargers to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. But, that's not what Eloff would be remembered for on this day. What he will be remembered for is stepping up to the plate with two out and hitting a walk-off single to complete an amazing comeback for the Raiders.

Ancilla scored a run apiece in the first, second, third, and fifth inning. Kick starting the offense for Ancilla was lead-off man Josh Frantz (3 for 4) who consistently pressured GRCC with his knack for getting on base.  The Raiders, however, persevered through their mistakes and finally built some momentum in the final frame.

The Raiders came out swinging in the seventh inning. The top of order was up to bat and they did not disappoint. Jacob Waters (2 for 4), Nolan Page (2 for 3), and Aaron Fadden (1 for 1) all singled to load the bases before Dylan VanPutten was walked, scoring Waters. Nick Black then hit an RBI single to make the score 4-2 in favor of Ancilla. The raiders tied the game 4-4 as the Chargers second baseman Josh Frantz carelessly threw the ball past the first baseman Conor Milligan while trying to turn a double play. This set the stage for Eloff's walk-off single that ended the game 5-4.

Garrett Veihl (2-2) went the entire game on the mound for the Raiders, earning the win. Veihl was in command of his pitches and kept GRCC within striking distance, despite throwing 111 pitches. Veihls stat line was three earned runs, eight hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Game 2

The Grand Rapids Community College baseball team did not have to rely on late game heroics in the second game, beating Ancilla handily 10-0 (5 innings). The Raiders scored in a variety of ways, including, a balk, dropped fly ball, and throwing error. All three came in the second inning, which saw the Raiders score eight runs in total.

Four Raiders are now hitting above three hundred (30 at-bats to qualify). Nolan Page leads the team with a batting average of .388 with 67 plate appearances. Nick Black .370, Wes Vaughn .342, and Ian Hathaway .333 are the other three to crack .300.

With the two victories, GRCC (12-6 MCCAA) is now tied for second place with Delta (11-5 MCCAA) in the MCCAA, two games back from first place Muskegon Community College (13-3 MCCAA). Grand Rapids Community College will next play third place Jackson Community College (10-6 MCCAA, 3 GB) in a pivotal conference doubleheader on Saturday (April 26) in Jackson, Michigan starting at 1:00pm.
