Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's men's basketball team faces the top team in the MCCAA West in Glen Oaks 9-1 Vikings this Saturday, February 8
th at 3:00PM. GRCC, now tied for third in the West with Ancilla College, remains two and a half games out of first behind Glen Oaks and one and a half game behind Kalamazoo.
GRCC hits the road with a respectable 6-3 conference record while 12-6 overall facing a 9-1 Glen Oaks squad that was on a nine-game win streak until this past Wednesday when Kalamazoo Valley took them by eleven points handing them a 74-85 loss—their first since December 4
th, 2013.
Given their recent loss, the Vikings will be anxious to prove that they are still the best is the West.
In their last contest against the Vikings in Grand Rapids, GRCC struggled to contain Angelo Griffis and Lee Gardener. Griffis put a cool 23 point, 16 rebound double double on the Raiders while Lee trailed with 18 and 11.
Those figures were not an anomaly; that pair has wreaked havoc on much of the league.
GRCC has found leaders in
Courtney Hill and
DeMarkus Stuckey who are averaging roughly fourteen points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Much like last Wednesday's win against Kellogg's Bruins, GRCC will need to get the most out of everyone on the roster to pull off the upset win. By the numbers, GRCC is the underdog, but these two rivals know how dangerous the other can be.
