Box Score Centerville, MI – GRCC's men's basketball team couldn't finish against the MCCAA Wests #1 Glen Oaks Community College losing to the Vikings 80-81 despite managing a lead for most of the game Saturday afternoon.
The loss improves the Vikings to 10-1 in MCCAA West play and 19-3 overall as the Raiders remain tied for third with Ancilla College at 6-4 in MCCAA play while 12-7 overall.
The Raiders led by as many as 9 points in the first half with
Cameron Burhannon leading the way shooting 6-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line for 15 points. Ultimately the Raiders took a 3 point 43-39 lead in to the second half.
Leading 70-63 with five minutes on the clock, GRCC's watched as Glen Oaks went on a 8-0 run to take the lead for the first time since the first half with 3:25 to play. The remaining minutes witnessed 8 lead changes until CJ Mackey's two-point shoot game GRCC their last lead with 1:15 to play.
Glen Oaks' Aundreyan Roberts took the lead back 79-78 for the Vikings with a pair of free throws with 55.5 seconds remaining.
GRCC failed to produce on their next possession forcing a foul. Angelo Griffis drained two from the line to go up 81-78 with just 15.5 seconds to play.
The Raiders has a chance to tie the game, but Burhannon's three point attempt fell short.
Devin Longoria's put-back layup fell with 2 seconds to play, but that shot was not enough as the Raiders fell to Glen Oaks for the second time in 2014.
Burhannon led the Raiders in points and rebounds with 30 and 11.
Courtney Hill added 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Miles Robinson contributed 18 points and added 3 assists.
The Raiders allowed 22 turnovers in the contest—the second most they've allowed all season.
While the loss still stings today, the Raiders will have to put that behind them as the face the #2 team, South Suburban Community College (IL), tonight at 7:30PM.
