Grand Rapids, Mich. – After a season low 8 turnovers in their last game, the Raiders set a new season low, as they had just 4 turnovers against
Davenport University JV. With the help of
DeMarkus Stuckey (5-9) the Raiders shot a season best 47% from behind the arc. Stuckey also had a season high 11 assists to go with his game high 21 points.
Calvin Ward III scored 21 as well, making it 4 straight games with 20+ points.
Gregory Fleming (6-8) 19 points,
Shalory Clark (4-6) 12 points and
Kevin Brower (3-6) 10 points were the other double digit scorers.
The Raiders blistering three point shooting (14-30) and ability to get to the free throw line (19-26) allowed GRCC to pull away early, eventually coasting to a comfortable victory. Davenport shot well from the field, connecting on 41% of their attempts. However, their meager performance (5-23) from three point range wasn't't enough to stay with the Raiders potent offense on this night. GRCC has improved significantly in turnover margin since David Selmon took over as Head Coach three games ago. The Raiders average on the season is just a touch over
12 TO per game, while they have forced 15, which is another improvement since the coaching change. Davenport University was paced by
Carter VanTimmeren (14 points) and
Juwan Loudermill (15 points).
All nine Raiders scored at least one point, including both
Giancarlo Hernandez and
Michael Spicer who scored for the first time all season. Spicer in his 2nd game of the year scored his first points on an "and one" with 1:32 to go in the game. Newly added (and dressed for the first time), Hernandez, came into the game with 48.1 ticks on the clock in the first half, and scored his first point on a free throw with 2:49 to go in the game.
