Next Game: Friday, November 21st vs. Northwood University JV - 7:30 p.m. – Ford Fieldhouse
University Center, MI. – GRCC has moved to 2-0 on the year after an impressive road win over MCCAA Eastern Conference foe Delta College 84-64. Once again
DeMarkus Stuckey scored 30 plus points, and if Stuckey was Batman,
Calvin Ward III was Robin. Ward poured in 28 points of his own, leading the Raiders big second half run. Behind Stuckey and Ward's hot shooting, GRCC blew the doors off the joint, outscoring the Pioneers by 17 points over the last ten minutes of the game. Taking what was a deficit at the half and turning it into a double digit win.
If two players scoring 28 points plus for the Raiders wasn't interesting enough, the Raiders only dressed seven players. Yes, GRCC had two subs for the entire game. Calvin Ward and
Kevin Brower both went the distance playing all 40 minutes. Surprisingly, none of the Raiders fouled out of the game. This was critical for the Raiders, especially for Brower who was the only post player GRCC dressed.
The Raiders would trail after the first stanza, 27-24. Neither team shot particularly well from the floor, as a team GRCC shot 11- 31 (34%). Delta was less impressive, going 12-41 (29%) from the field. Â The Raiders, who rely heavily on the three point shot, could only manage 1 of 13 in the half. Despite Delta's terrible shot percentage, they were able to grind on the offensive boards, coming away with 10 offensive rebounds which led to nine more shots than the Raiders put up.
The second half was nothing like the first. Stuckey and Ward both went off for 22 apiece in the final frame, shooting a combined 15-20 (5-7, 3pts) from the floor. GRCC scorched Delta to a tune of 60 to 37 in second half. The Raiders shot 58% from the field as they put on an offensive clinic. "The basket felt like the ocean" said Stuckey, after hitting numerous pull up threes.
The Raiders will face Northwood University (JV) on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 7:30 PM in the Ford Fieldhouse.
