Grand Rapids, Mich – GRCC's Raider volleyball team improves to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play after dispatching the NJCAA's #4 Muskegon Community College Jayhawks last night in a hard fought 3-1 victory, 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 27-25.
Leading the Raiders offensive charge was sophomore outside Tayler Friend who finished the contest with 12 kills. Freshman middle blocker Abbie Gortsema added 12 kills and 3.5 blocks while sophomore middle Emily Johnson added 8 kills with 15 digs.
Freshman defensive specialist Amanda Glaza racked up 16 digs in the contest while adding two aces and freshman setter Taylor Gates 35 assists were paired with 3 kills and 8 digs on the night.
GRCC is now 5-1 against nationally ranked opponents and rest a half a game ahead of Kalamazoo Valley Community College to retain first place in the MCCAA West standings.
GRCC travels to Jackson Community College on Thursday September 19th for a 6:30 contest against the Jets. Jackson's Jets are 6-8 overall and 1-3 in MCCAA West play with losses from Muskegon and Kalamazoo Valley and a win over Lake Michigan College.
