Softball downs two teams to advance in the District Tournamnet

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Battle Creek, MI – GRCC’s Raider softball team advances on in the NJCAA District G Softball Tournament with big wins over Ancilla and Owens Community Collleges.

The Raiders first faced Ancilla Community College.  Despite a 4-4 tie entering the bottom of the fifth, the Raiders ended up downing the Chargers 14-4. Megan Galganski led the fifth inning comeback effort first with a single scoring Megan Lee.

Tiffanie Wolan followed her lead with a three run home run and then Shelby Roush added a two run bomb of her own to put the Raiders up 10-4.

Back at the plate with bases loaded, Megan Galganski ends the game with a grand slam in the fifth inning as the Raiders walked off with a 14-4 win.

The Raiders went 13-of-26 as a team at the plate.

Megan Lee was 3-for-3 with four runs and 1 RBI. Casey Swink went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Megan Galganski went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI and two runs.

Ingrid Kukla pitched all five allowing 8 hits and four earned runs while picking up her 19th win of 2013.

GRCC carried that momentum into their second game of the tournament against #2 seed Owens Community College.

GRCC started the game with a two run homer by Tiffanie Wolan to go up 2-0 after the top of one.  Owens responded with some effective small ball adding four runs to take the 4-2 lead by the end of the third.

In the fourth GRCC rallied with a pair of home runs as Shelby Roush hit a two run shot to left center scoring Kaitlyn Schneider and Danielle Goad decided to bat herself in with a solo bomb to right center to put her squad up 5-4 in the fourth.

A scoreless fifth led to a sixth inning where Casey Swink scored Goad on a fly out to left field and a Megan Galganski single drove Amanda Steig in for the 8-4 lead.

Down but not out, Owen’s Rockman hit a two run homer to left center to bring the Express within two as the Raiders maintained the 8-6 lead.

In the seventh, Megan Lee’s  three RBI double down the left field line put her team up 11-6 for the last runs of the night as the Raiders took down the Express to advance on.

Kayla Goodwin earned the win pitching four innings allowing four htis and two earned runs.

Megan Lee led the Raiders offensive charge going 3-of-5 with three RBI.  Danielle Goad was 3-of-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Today, GRCC faces KVCC’s Cougars at 2:00PM at Flannery Field.

GRCC is 2-2 against KVCC this season.
