Box Score Enid, OK – Grand Rapids Community College’s Raider Baseball team heads home 1-2 from the NJCAA Division II World Series following a 1-9 loss to Madison College.
After losing their first game of the 2013 World Series to #4 Scottsdale Community College 3-8, the Raiders, now facing elimination, responded with a 6-2 win over Lackawanna Community College to continue on in the tournament.
The win over Lackawanna set the Raiders up for a Memorial Day contest against Madison College.
The Raiders got off to a rocky start as Freshman
Austin Rusnell gave up five earned runs on five hits in the first inning.
Sophomore
Austin Stephens entered the game after 1.2 innings but Madison’s 6-0 lead was already hanging over the Raiders’ heads.
Stephens pitched five innings allowing three hits with three earned runs—all coming off a three run homer in the seventh—with two walks and two strikeouts.
The Raiders, down 9-0 after the top of seven, finally drove in a run as

Madison College’s Cody Peterson earned the win pitching a complete game allowing just five hits and one earned run with one walk.
Rusnell took the loss for GRCC.
GRCC was led offensively by Nick Black who drove in GRCC’s lone run after going 1-of-3. Sophomore
Mike Battistelli hit 1-of-2 with one hit and one walk.
Madison was led by Bryce Barsness who hit 2-of-2 for two RBI and 3 runs after taking one walk. Danny Krause was 2-of-3 while scoring two. Dan Schmidt, while hitting just 1-of-4, made the one count scoring 3 on a three run shot to left.
The loss closes out the Raiders’ season and sends them back to Grand Rapids, while Madison’s win advances them to the next elimination round where they face Scottsdale Community College today at 4:30PM EST.
