Softball drops to #2 in the MCCAA West after losses to KVCC

Box Score Grand Rapids, MI -- With 2-7 and 3-5 losses against the MCCAA West's #1 Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, GRCC falls to #2 in conference play with a 23-5 MCCAA record while 30-14 overall.

The Raiders must now win the next 3-of-4 final regular season games to make the MCCAA State Tournament.

In both games against KVCC's Cougars the Raiders failed to produce much offense.  In game one freshman Megan Lee led the charge for the Raiders batting 3-of-4 for two RBI while the rest of the sqaud failed to produce a run.  Starting pitcher Ingrid Kukla picked up her fifth loss of the season allowing 11 hits with six earned runs while striking out five.

In game two Kalamazoo found themselves up 5-0 by the end of the fifth inning. GRCC didn't get on the board until the seveth when Amanda Steig singled up the center scoring two to bring the game within reach.  Freshman Shelby Roush hit a deep ball scoring one with two runners on that nearly went yard, but fell into a Cougar glove as the Raiders took the 3-5 loss.

Roush's lone RBI led the Raiders offense in game two.  Russelle Slimmen took the loss pitching all seven innings allowing 11 hits, 4 earned runs and three walks while striking out five.

Next up for the Raiders is a trip to Donalson, Indiana to face the 14-15 Chargers of Ancilla College on Thursday May 2.  GRCC's softball team will close their regular season with a doubleheader at home against Lansing Community College on Friday May 3rd at 3:00 PM.
