Softball finishes 8 game homestand 7-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Grand Rapids, MI -- GRCC's nationally ranked #16 softball team finished an eight game homestand with seven wins and one loss before heading to Battle Creek on Sunday to take on the Bruins of Kellogg Community College.  The Raiders remain tied with Kalamazoo Valley Community College for first place as both teams hold three losses thus far.

The Raiders lone loss this past week came by way of Ancilla College's Chargers in an extra inning nail biter where a Tiffanie Wolan seventh inning single scored two to tie the game 2-2 forcing the extra innings.

Ancilla's McLellan answered the call in the 9th inning hitting a four-run bomb on a full count to put her Chargers up 6-2.  The Raiders chipped away at the Chargers lead as Megan Galganski hit an RBI single to add a run to the defecit 3-6 and Danielle Goad and Russelle Slimmen each earned a RBI on pitching errors, but in the end the Chargers pulled off the 6-5 win.

Despite the loss the Raiders rebounded with a pair of wins on Friday and Saturday against Jackson's Jets, 1-0 and 6-5, and against Glen Oaks' Vikings 6-1 and 12-0 (5 Innings).

Today the Raiders take on the Bruins of Kellogg Community College.  The Bruins now sit third from last in the MCCAA West with an 8-15 conference record while 10-21 overall.

Sophomore Tiani Beck currently leads the team in batting and on base percentage with averages of .468 and .516.  Beck has recoreded 28 RBI on the season, second only to Tiffanie Wolan with 36.

Freshman Ingrid Kukla remains GRCC ace on the mound with an impressive 15-4 record and a 2.95 ERA.
