Softball splits with Lansing after a four home run comeback inning in the second game.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lansing, MI – GRCC’s nine-game win streak came to an end as the Raiders dropped the first of two games to Lansing Community College’s Stars 4-5. 

The first inning set the tone for the Stars as Emilie Pretzer went yard with two on base to score three runs.  Lansing’s following batter, Emily Wilson, walked to first and eventually put her team up 4-0 as she crossed the plate, unearned.

After a scoreless second inning GRCC finally got on the board after Tiani Beck double moved Megan Lee to third for a Tiffanie Wolan sac fly RBI scoring Lee.  Down 1-4, Kaitlyn Schneider singled to left scoring Beck to add a run.

From the bottom of three through the fourth, both teams held each other scoreless maintaining Lansing’s 4-2 lead, but in the top of the fifth, Beck homered to right center and Wolan reached home plate on a fielder’s choice tying the game at 4-4.

Lansing’s winning run came in the fifth after Amber Sawyer walked to first, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored after a throwing error following a sac bunt by Rachel Maimquest.

Down 4-5, GRCC couldn’t produce a run in the sixth or seventh; Lansing took the win.

Beck led the Raiders going 2-of-3 scoring two runs with one RBI.  Pretzer led the Stars hitting 1-of-4 for three RBI and one run.

Kristen Milkle earned the win for Lansing pitching seven innings while allowing seven hits, four earned runs, walking one and striking out five.

Kayla Goodwin took the loss, now 5-7, allowing only three hits and two earned runs, while striking out four but walking eight.

In the second game GRCC took the lead in the top of two after Danielle Goad s single scored Kaitlyn Schneider following a scoreless first inning.

Ingrid Kukla held off the Stars again in the bottom of the second giving way to Tiani Beck’s second home run of the day to put
GRCC on top 2-0 in the top of the third.

Lansing responded in the bottom of the third scoring two to tie the game at 2-2.

Holding GRCC scoreless in the top of the fourth, Lansing then added three unearned runs in the bottom of four to take the 5-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Beck hit a solo homer—her second of the game and third of the day—to leave GRCC down two, but GRCC couldn’t tie it up leaving Wolan and Schneider on base as Lansing headed to the plate for the bottom of the fifth.

With no action in the bottom of five or the top of the six,  Lansing cushioned their lead as Amber Sawyer hit a solo home run to up their lead 6-3 to close the inning.

What happened in the top of the seventh was pretty remarkable.

Amanda Steig laid down a bunt to reach first.  Megan Lee steps to the plate. Two-run homer. Now 5-6.

Beck gave it her best again but went down like a hitter, swinging.  Still 5-6.

Wolan at the plate.  Homer. Tied 6-6.

Schneider at the plate. Homer. 7-6.

Casey Swink flied out for the second out, but Megan Galganski followed with—you guessed it—another solo home run. Raider lead 8-6.

With the wind out of their sails, Lansing went scoreless in the bottom of seven and GRCC got the 8-6 win after their four home run comeback seventh inning.

Schneider led the Raiders offensively hitting 4-of-4 with one RBI while scoring two runs. 

The Raiders sent six balls beyond the fence in the second game for a total of seven home runs on the day.

Ingrid Kukla earned the win—now 10-5—after pitching seven allowing eight hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks.

Now 12-2 in the MCCAA West after dropping the first game to Lansing, GRCC shares first place with Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Cougars.  With 29 home runs on the books this season, GRCC is tied for 10th in the nation for the most home runs.

The Raiders travel to Ancilla College on Thursday the 18th for a double header beginning at 3:00PM.
