In the first game of the doubleheader GRCC was down 2-6 after the first and 2-7 in the second inning, but managed to pull out one of the biggest and best win's in GRCC Softball history
Morgan Hill shut out 11 straight Raider batters before a leadoff HBP started the rally in the top of the 5th inning. With Shelby Roush on first, Amanda Steig blasted her 1st home run of the season to put the Raiders to within three. It would be the first of 7 Raider home runs on the day.
The score remained 4-7 going into the top of the seventh, and the Raider rally started again as Megan Lee hit a base hit single to left field with one hit. Amber Frye moved Lee to second on a ground out making it two outs, but the Raider bats would not let up. A double to the fence by Tiani Beck made it 5-7, and then a monster home run to center field by Tiffanie Wolan tied the game at 7. Kaitlyn Guobis followed that by a double of her own before the Cougars finally went to their bullpen. Vanderbor got the next batter to end the upper half of the inning.
The Cougars looked like they might score in the bottom of the 7th, but Kayla pitched out of the jam after allowing their 1st batter to reach third with just 1 out. She got the final two batters via flyout and strikeout.
Tied at 7 and with one out in the 8th, Roush cranked her 4th homer of the season putting her team ahead for the first time since the top of the 1st inning. Steig would flyout making it two outs, but freshman Megan Lee ripped a double down the left field line to continue the rally. Casey Swink blooped one into left center scoring Lee and then back to back homers Beck and Wolan made it 12-7.
The deficit proved to be too high as the Cougars were shut out for the 6th straight inning and the Raiders 10 unanswered runs would make it one of the biggest come backs Coach P has ever witnessed.
In game two, the Cougars starting pitcher shut down the tough Raider offensive through 4 innings, allowing just one hit. In the 5th inning though, down 1-2, a three run homer by Roush put the Raiders back in front for good. Danielle Goad, who hit 10 homers last season, hit her first one of this season in the 6th inning and the Raiders added two more making it the 7-3 final score.
Goodwin picked up her 5th win in game one and Ingrid Kukla picked up her 9th win of the season in game two.
The Raider offense combined for 22 hits and were lead by Beck who went 5 for 9 on the day. Roush, Lee, Wolan, and Kaitlyn Guobis each had 3 hits. As a team the Raiders had a .706 slugging percentage.
The Raiders nearly made it 9 straight games of 10 or more hits if it wasn't for a missed call in game two. On the season the Raiders are batting a staggering .354, have 22 homers, 78 extra base hits, and have had 10 or more hits in 17 of their 28 total games.
