Post season play begins tonight at GRCC

Grand Rapids, MI—The Raiders are looking to make a return to the NJCAA National Tournament, and the road to Danville begins tonight at the Ford Fieldhouse. GRCC will host the first round of MCCAA post-season play in the Hunsberger Arena against Lake Michigan College.

The Red Hawks are a familiar foe, the two having clashed twice already this season. The Red Hawks make their second visit in one week to GRCC following last Wednesday’s 69-51 loss to GRCC. The Raiders also dealt the Hawks a 61-54 loss in Benton Harbor.

Riding a 7 game winning streak, the Raiders appear to have found their form. The group is playing with tenacity, and has developed a degree of chemistry not usually seen in predominantly freshman teams.

The team, led by second year Head Coach TJ Carnegie, has their sights set on a return to Danville, and it appears to be a strong possibility given the stats and their recent track record.

Across the 7 game win streak, the Raiders have downed some big competitors. The guys started out the streak with a razor thin victory over a strong Kellogg CC team and used that momentum against a powerhouse Glen Oaks team. The Vikings had won their previous 20 matches before coming to GRCC and had been ranked #3 in the nation.

The 7 game win streak encompassed 5 home court victories for the Raiders, an area that has proven to be perhaps their strongest suit. When playing as the visiting team, the Raiders are just 7-6, however when hosting, the team is 11-2 during the 2012-2013 season. The home court advantage may be just what the Raiders need in the opening round of MCCAA playoffs. Game time is at 8:00, immediately following the GRCC women's squad match against Kellogg CC.
