Men's basketball down Jackson's Jets 79-67

Box Score Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s men’s basketball team moves to third in the MCCAA West rankings after downing Jackson Community College’s Jets 79-67.  The Raiders improve to 9-5 in conference play while 16-8 overall.  Jackson drops to 6-7 in conference and 10-13 overall.

GRCC jumped out to a 10 point lead 39-29 after the completion of the first half of the contest led by Freshman Kevin Badger who went 6-of-7 from the field for 13 points and 3 assists.  Sophomore Alex Mustert shot 7-of-8 from the line while 1-of-2 from the field for 9 points.

Down 10, Jackson’s Jets stepped up their game in the second, but couldn’t slow down the Raiders offensive efforts.  Raider forward Deontae Hudson led GRCC in the second with 11 points, but the Raider’s offensive attack wasn’t limited to just one man as each member of the team slowly added to their forty point second half effort for the 79-67 win.

Jackson was led by Malik Fields and Larry Taylor.  Fields finished the contest with 12 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes of play.  Taylor added 9 points and six rebounds in twenty-nine minutes of play.  Kevin Allen led the Jets in rebounding with 9.

Deontae Hudson and Kevin Badger led the Raiders in scoring with 18 each. Badger shot a  cool 8-of-10 from the field adding four assists and four steals.  Despite poor shooting from the field, Alex Mustert managed a 13 point, 10 rebound double-double shooting 9-of-10 from the line.

Willie Duke added 8 points and 7 rebounds in a mere twelve minutes of play and Miles Robinson finished the game with 8 points and four steals.

GRCC next faces the MCCAA West’s number two team, Lansing Community College.  LCC’s Stars hold an impressive 10-4 record in conference play though on a two-game slide recording back to back losses to Lake Michigan and Kalamazoo Valley Community Colleges.

GRCC’s Raiders are one game behind the Stars with two games left in regular season play.

Lansing hosts GRCC Saturday, February 23rd with tip off schedule for 7:30PM.
