Raiders seek vengeance against Jets

Grand Rapids, MI—The Raiders and the Jets have been developing a rivalry of sorts in recent history. Last year’s GRCC squad earned a berth to the national tournament after dealing Jackson a 74-70 loss to end their season. The next time the 2 teams met, it was the Jets who walked away with a 4 point victory. This time around, the Raiders are looking for vengeance.

Despite the 84-88 loss to Jackson earlier this season, the Raiders are confident that they have what it takes to earn a victor. Currently riding a four game winning streak, the guys are hoping to keep a home court advantage for when the playoffs start.

Strong efforts from Freshmen Deontae Hudson and Kevin Badger, who scored 20 points and 15 points respectively, were not enough, and the guys just didn’t have what it took take down the Jets. Jackson relied on the strength of their starters. The group combined for 51 of the teams 88 points, and were led by Larry Taylor with 14 and Montez Sistrunk with another 13.

This time, however, it’s GRCC who has the hot hands.

Jackson is yet to qualify for the post season, and the Raiders aim to keep it that way.  Armed with an incredibly hot and freshly named NJCAA Player of the Week Alex Mustert, the Raiders are a tough team to match up against. Mustert is averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game over the last 5 contests.

The Raiders take to the court immediately following the women’s game. Scheduled start time is at 7:30 PM in the Gordon Hunsberger Arena at the Ford Fieldhouse.
